Snow Melt

After warm days, windy days and much heavy rain most of the snow has gone. This does not include the greta mountains of snow in the parking lots, just snow in our gardens. What a dirty mess it has left behind. My garden is a vision of flattened plants, littered leaves and crushed grass.

The long very cold snap before the snow fell resulted in blackened leaves and shrubs that appear to have given up the ghost. Only time and the return of warmer weather will prove or disprove the continuing existence of life.

On the cheerful side, some of the emerging plants look freshly-washed . The bergenias in particular look revived and ready for spring. The variegated ivy seems to have sustained no harm and the birds are chattering busily as they forage through the old leaves.

I will keep looking for signs that bulbs are sprouting.
